The New York Post reports that a headbanging couple in Sweden applied to name their girl after the time-tested American metal band, Metallica. Fortunately for the girl, the Swedish board charged with reviewing such applications rejected the submission. Rocktations suspects that Lars Ulrich, the Metallica drummer who became the face of the RIAA during the Napster downloading scandal, would have tried to raid the girl's college fund for royalty payments.
"Although Metallica has already been baptized, the Swedish National Tax Board, which must approve names, rejected the label.
'It suits her,' Karolina [Tomaro, the child's mother] said. 'She's decisive and she knows what she wants.'"
Rocktations supports a parent's right to saddle his or her kids with silly monikers such as Chewbacca, Snoop Dogg, Hambone, Chuck, or Jennifer 8. Lee.
